M.O.V.E.’s AIMS & ASPIRATIONS Ž To provide affordable housing for rental to local residents who cannot access any other forms of housing. Ž To involve local residents in the development and decision making process of the project. Ž To retain local families in the community, by providing suitable housing. Ž To purchase property, refurbish if necessary to bring up to an acceptable living standard, and re-let to its members. WHY HAVE A CO-OPERATIVE ? Whilst many of the community’s housing needs are met by the Housing Executive and Housing Associations, the community feels that there is a place for a self managed and self funded organisation, that can provide affordable rented accommodation for local people. WHAT IS A CO-OPERATIVE ? A co-operative is a non profit taking company which is owned and managed by its members. No one person will gain financially from the venture, but Co-operative members will benefit from their access to additional affordable rented accommodation, and the community as a whole will benefit from the overall improvement to the area. Any money that is deposited in the Co-operative is safe and secure. You can withdraw your money at any time, but we would ask members to invest their money for a minimum of five years. This will give us the opportunity to purchase more property, and we can reinvest the rental income back into the co-operative. The Co-operative is registered as a ‘Friendly Society’ with the Registry of Companies, and as such will present audited accounts to the co-operative members at their Annual General Meetings. A steering group of founder members will manage the project until a Committee of Management can be elected at the Annual General Meeting.
