Midnight Street Soccer

Congratulations to Southcity Midnight Street Soccer team who won the South Belfast league based at Olympia Leisure Centre. The league has been played over the last six weeks from November – December 2007 with teams from Village, Suffolk, Donegall Pass, Markets and Lower Ormeau. Southcity will travel to the JJB Soccerdome in Dundalk on the 15th December to compete against the winners of all Midnight Street Soccer leagues in the grand final. The standard of players in the South Belfast league has risen this year with more players interested in competing and winning the trophy for their organisation.

The next league will commence in February 2008 with over 100 participants taking part in the programme. If you are interested in competing or submitting a team please contact Glen Mc Crum at the Trust.

Older and Active

Another successful Older and Active programme took place in South Belfast at Charter Youth Club in SandyRow. The programme commenced in October 2007 and was designed to run for 8 weeks concluding with a Christmas party and Tea-dance. The programme was established in partnership with South Belfast Highway to Health, LORAG and Castlereagh Borough Council, with funding supplied through Belfast City Council and Sport NI. Activities included in the programme were Boccia, New-age curling, community safety, home safety, therapy day, bus trips and social events. Over 50 participants took part on the programme from three localities across Belfast, Village/SandyRow, Lower Ormeau and Castlereagh.

Our next programme will hopefully kick off in Feburary 2008 depending on funding applied for from Sport Relief and Belfast City Council. If you are interested in joining the Older and Active group or volunteering for the programme please contact Glen Mc Crum at the Trust.
